The National Archives
how has the role of Queen changed? To mark Queen Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee, we were commissioned by The National Archives to produce a fun, engaging and thought-provoking film for primary schools.
We curated a selection of key sources from The National Archives to tell the story of the last 70 years. We scoured other historical libraries, from the Royal Collection Trust to home movies to portray an authentic snapshot of life.
We wanted to show the lives of everyday people as well as highlight important events. Creating ‘moving mood boards’, we were able to give a flavour of the dominant design trends, fashions, music style and a snapshot of what childhood was like for each decade of her reign.

Working closely with the education team, we helped to develop a script that asked some key questions to help pupils consider the changing role of the Queen during the course of her 70 years on the throne. These questions were used as part of a lesson plan that was downloaded thousands of times ahead of the Jubilee weekend, and the video was the most viewed upload on the National Archives YouTube channel this year.
