ALIVE: Human skills for an AI-enabled workplace

People learn best when they are actively involved in questioning, interpreting, discussing, testing and making sense of things for themselves.

Much of the focus in AI adoption is on the tools: prompts, applications, shortcuts and time saved. We must also focus on strengthening the human skills needed to question what comes back, make sense of it, check it and decide what to do next.

This facilitated workshop draws on ALIVE: Ask, Listen, Interpret, Validate and Explore. Through practical activities, participants use the five skills with AI and other people - exploring how they can support better thinking, better conversations and more thoughtful use of AI.

The AI age needs people who relentlessly question, interpret, test - and stay open in the face of certainty.

What participants will leave with

Five practical skills
Participants practise ALIVE (Ask, Listen, Interpret, Validate and Explore) with AI and each other. Through this, they develop the skills of asking better questions, noticing what may be missing, checking assumptions and deciding what information means in context.

A clearer understanding of what humans contribute
Through practical activities, participants compare working with AI, working with another person and combining the two - noticing where technology adds value and where human judgement, experience, interpretation and conversation remain essential.

A practical way to apply ALIVE at work
Participants use the ALIVE skills on a real workplace challenge and identify ways to build more questioning, checking, discussion and exploration into their everyday use of AI.
