ALIVE Learning Conversations:
Helping people make sense of ideas together
Learning conversations help people move beyond receiving information to thinking about what it means, comparing perspectives and deciding what they might do differently.
This short field guide explores how to design and facilitate these conversations. It offers practical questions for workshops, meetings and classrooms, and an ALIVE approach to helping people think aloud, listen to one another and turn discussion into action.

Why this matters
Conversation is thinking out loud together.
A lot of training is designed around delivery. Information is presented and explained, but people are given little space to connect it to their own experience, question assumptions or consider what might change.
Learning conversations make better use of the time people spend together. They allow people to encounter different perspectives and develop understanding through conversation.
Inside, you’ll explore:
the difference between delivering training and creating learning
the conditions that help learning lead to change
how to design workshops, meetings and classrooms around conversation
how to use Ask, Listen, Interpret, Validate and Explore to help more people contribute, make sense of ideas and identify a small next step
